# Prepare the demo shop

> A fictional, reproducible dataset for the three TestPulse workshops.

Prepare a small plan with **three test cases**, then use a fictional shop for the exploratory workshop. This dataset is for learning: its results do not describe the quality of a real product.

## Before you start

* Use an Azure DevOps demonstration project where you can create work items, plans and test cases.
* Check the [installation prerequisites](https://docs.atconseil.info/en/getting-started/installation.md). Permission to read a report does not automatically allow you to prepare this dataset.
* Use one configuration for all three cases. Its name depends on your project.
* If you already have a small plan with varied results, you can use it: compare proportions rather than the identifiers in our screenshots.

## 1. Create the plan and cases

In **Test Plans**, open the list of all plans, then **New Test Plan**. Name it **TP-DOC — Boutique démo**. Keep an area and iteration belonging to your demonstration project.

Under the root suite with the same name, create a **static child suite** named **TP-DOC — Parcours de commande**. Select that child suite, open **Define**, then **New Test Case**. Create these three cases with one step each. Their French titles are kept in both languages so the examples can be compared using the TP-DOC identifiers.

| Case | Action | Expected result |
| - | - | - |
| TP-DOC-01 — Ajouter un produit au panier | Add one item priced at EUR 20. | The cart contains one item and the subtotal is EUR 20. |
| TP-DOC-02 — Refuser une adresse vide | Leave the delivery address empty and place the order. | The order is refused and a message requests an address. |
| TP-DOC-03 — Appliquer un code promotionnel | Enter DEMO10 for a EUR 20 cart. | The discount is EUR 2 and the total is EUR 18. |

**Check:** the **TP-DOC — Parcours de commande** child suite contains three separate cases. Under **Execute**, that same suite shows three test points if each case has a single configuration.

If you already created the three cases in the root, add those **existing cases** to the child suite rather than recreating their work items. The child suite's new points have their own results: set their outcomes in the next step, even if the cases were already executed elsewhere.

> [!NOTE]
>
> For TestPulse 2.73.1, place the cases in this child suite rather than only in the root. With a root-only plan, the report may fall back to existing runs: a not-executed case can then be missing and the execution rate can appear complete. The child suite lets you select and check all three exercise points.

You can also download and extract the [demo ZIP kit](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AlexThibaud1976/testpulse-docs/main/examples/tp-doc-boutique-kit.zip): it contains the optional **tp-doc-test-cases-fr.csv** file with the three cases. Use native **Azure Test Plans** import or, from **TestPulse 2.74.0**, **Import → CSV test cases**: select the three ungrouped cases, create a group and map it to **TP-DOC — Parcours de commande**. **Automated XML results** does not create cases. Adjust any fields required by your process; keep IDs empty to create new cases. Importing again with empty IDs creates new work items. See the [CSV tutorial](https://docs.atconseil.info/en/tutorials/import-csv-test-cases.md).

## 2. Prepare the learning results

Download the [demo ZIP kit](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AlexThibaud1976/testpulse-docs/main/examples/tp-doc-boutique-kit.zip) from the public documentation repository if you have not already done so. On Windows, right-click the ZIP and choose **Extract All**. From the extracted folder, open **boutique-demo.html** in your browser and click **English**. The shop works offline, without installation, a server or payment. No personal information is needed.

1. Click **Add to cart**: one item and EUR 20 appear. TP-DOC-01 is **Passed**.
2. Leave the address empty, then click **Place order**: the shop accepts the order. This is the intentional defect in the exercise. TP-DOC-02 is **Failed**.
3. Do not run TP-DOC-03; leave it not executed.

Record these results under **Execute** in Azure Test Plans, keeping **TP-DOC — Parcours de commande** selected, using each row's outcome menu or the test runner. If you mark outcomes directly, these are prepared learning statuses; do not present them as automated executions.

**Expected starting state:** 1 Passed, 1 Failed, 1 not executed. Two of three tests are completed; one of the two completed tests passed, giving a 50% pass rate. The third test is not a success.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A static suite is enough for these first workshops. With no linked requirement, some coverage measures will be absent or unrepresentative: this is a scope limitation, not evidence of low risk. The NO-GO workshop teaches you to recognise it.

## 3. Prepare the exploratory session work item

Create a **User Story** named **TP-DOC — Sécuriser la livraison** (or the requirement type used by your process).

Copy this description:

> As a buyer, I must provide an address before confirming my order. An empty address must prevent confirmation and produce an explicit message. Fictional scenario used for the TestPulse documentation.

The Explore workshop adds notes, evidence and a bug linked to this work item. Keep its identifier; every project assigns its own.

## If your result differs

* **More than three points:** check configurations and duplicate cases. Do not compare counters while the scope differs.
* **No creation permission:** ask an administrator to prepare the dataset; reading tutorials still work with an existing plan.
* **Three unexecuted results in TestPulse:** ensure the ADO results were saved, then regenerate the report.
* **Two cases and 100% execution despite the third being outstanding:** check that all three cases belong to **TP-DOC — Parcours de commande**, that this child suite is selected in TestPulse and that its own points have the expected outcomes. A root-only plan can produce this incomplete result in 2.73.1.
* **No User Story type:** use your process’s requirement type and note the terminology difference.
* **The shop is no longer in its initial state:** click **Reset exercise**. Azure DevOps results remain saved separately.
